10 years at Microsoft as a UX Designer 마이크로소프트에서 10년이 되었습니다

Today is my 10 year anniversary at Microsoft as a UX Designer! I feel so grateful, lucky, and honored to be able to work with so many talented people on such amazing products that can impact millions of people around the world.

When I decided to go back to school to study design and change my career from engineering to design, I hoped one day that I could become a designer who can connect and become a bridge between design and engineering. Now I feel that I was able to make my dream come true at Microsoft.

I still remember the early days when I was struggling with my poor English and shy personality because this was my first job in the US. Thanks to my amazing colleagues, gradually I was able to overcome and start to enjoy the design adventure.

Big “Thank you” to colleague designers, researchers, engineers, program managers, and the most amazing managers who helped me sail through this amazing journey at Microsoft. It has been a fantastic journey.

I spent some time documenting the projects that I had the opportunity to work on since 2011 — from Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, iOS, Android, Windows 10, Web, Windows Bridge to HoloLens, and Mixed Reality. I could say, “Wow, I really enjoyed every moment of my work” : )

마이크로소프트에서 UX 디자이너로 일을 한지 10년이 되었습니다! 수 많은 재능있는 사람들과 함께 전 세계 수백 수천만명의 사람들에게 영향을 미칠 수 있는 멋진 제품들을 디자인하는 일을 할 수 있었다는 사실에 감사하게 생각하고 또 영광스럽게 생각합니다.

소프트웨어 엔지니어로서의 직장을 그만 두고 학교로 돌아가 디자인을 공부하고 엔지니어링에서 디자인으로 진로를 바꾸기로 했을 때, 언젠가는 디자인과 엔지니어링을 잇는 가교가 될 수 있는 디자이너가 되기를 꿈꿨었습니다. 돌이켜보니 마이크로소프트에서 그 꿈이 이미 이루어 졌네요.

미국에서의 첫 직장 이었던 만큼, 서투른 영어와 내성적인 성격으로 고생을 하던 기억이 생생합니다만, 멋진 동료들 덕분에 잘 극복하고 디자인 어드벤쳐를 즐길 수 있었습니다. 이런 멋진 여정을 잘 항해해 나갈 수 있도록 도와준 모든 동료 디자이너, 리서쳐, 엔지니어, 프로그램 매니저, 그리고 훌륭한 매니저들에게 큰 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

윈도우즈8 부터 홀로렌즈에 이르기 까지, 2011년부터 그동안 작업한 프로젝트를 정리를 해보았는데, “정말 매 순간 즐겁게 즐기며 작업했구나”라는 말이 절로 나오더군요 : )
